Armchair Athlete

What day is it ? My bike is still in it’s bag and I am not looking forward to the smell that greats me when I un-zip it …. my race shoes are lurking in there somewhere

I am taking a break from training at the moment. Taking a break from routine, from watching what I eat, from thinking about iron levels, hydration levels, weight, recovery . . . I am however continuing to take afternoon naps and getting woken up by random drug testers.

My days are revolving around whats on TV, who I can meet for lunch and what places and who I can visit. From a sporting perspective I am looking forward to watching the World Mountain Bike Champs - my boy Sondre tells me they are live on www.freecaster.tv - Specialized’s Lene, Christophe, Burry et al are all going for gold.

The Gold Coast World Triathlon Series is also coming up - at the ITU Congress in the Gold Coast there is a motion being fought against by the ITU Athlete Committee - the ITU have brought forward a resolution to make all athletes from the same country wear the same kit in ITU competition. I have signed a petition against it as I agree with most of the ITU athletes on the circuit that it will severly restrict our commercial and sponsorship  activity - we already have numerous restrictions on the amount of logos, size of logos, positioning of logos etc

It is diffucult enough already to survive on the ITU circuit and as Simon Lessing famously once said during a briefing

“We can’t use ranking points in the supermarket”

If you follow @conradstoltz on twitter or read his site www.conradstoltz.com you will have already seen some of his latest posts on training and racing. Conrad has been around the world and back and his latest blog  (champions training, different strokes for different folks) gives some valuable and interesting insights into the various training he has used during his time at the top - in particular is the short paragaph on his time spent with world renowned coach Brett Sutton.  If you go to his site there is also some recent interviews with myself and Will Clarke.

Just to put it out there . . . I may have some rarely used equipment that would get more use in a good home. Some of it rarely even touchedt the ground
