Breakfast with Lance Armstrong
March 12th, 2010 by Gavin

On Thursday morning Conrad and I went to breakfast . . . 3 times. Once in Melissa’s at 7am, then with Lance Armstrong at 9am and then finally in Olympia Cafe at 11. “Like a King for breakfast and a pauper for dinner” isn’t that what they say ?
Did I mention Lance Armstrong came to our second breakfast ?

He arrived on a chopper (a helicopter not one of those Trek things he pedals) chatted Phil Liggett about the Tour de France, beating Cancer, pain is temporary and quitting lasts forever and how the marathon was one of the hardest things he has ever done . . . .
As part of his 3-day ‘Lance for Life’ tour to Cape Town our second breakfast was a fund raiser for the JAG Foundation. I told my Dad I was having breakfast with Lance and he reminded me that he once had dinner with Barry McGuigan (hero) . . . . . “shit ” I thought, “ he wins”.
Did I mention I had 3 breakfasts with Conrad ?
After Lance flew off we went to feed the warriors at Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay

In Olympia the warriors were fed accordingly

Then I was on my way back to Stellenbosch for a little light cardio . . . I have a running niggle at the moment – I am at that stage were I know I am 95% better but there is that fear when your lacing up your shoes that maybe the pain will come back . . . . maybe it’s time to kill the coward within
