I love Breakfast reading – Said Saaeef Shaheen

Waiting for Shaheen
I am a Sports fan. I love watching any sport live. I’ll watch, chat and debate about every sport. Hull City are on the slide in the Premiership. Should women get equal prize money ? (thats my favourite chat with Catriona Morrison, its pushes the watts up on a steady ride !). The Ras starts soon in Ireland. Di Luca “he’s some boy”. What about Chess-Boxing ? If I was Barrichello I would keep my race plan a secret . . . . .
When I was younger I was one of those weird kids who enyoyed watching the 10,000m on the track rather than the 100m sprint.
I always loved to watch distance running. I am one of those people who think the sight of an athlete in full flow is a beautiful thing. I love ‘the chat’ about the old days – when 5 of your neighbours could run sub 30minutes for a 10k – back when ‘men were made of iron and ships were made of wood !’
There was no fancy training systems, there was just miles. Hard miles done by hard men with cracking facial hair. Keep up or go home.
Over breakfast is the time of day when I catch up on Sports news – a bowl of porridge and a coffee . This morning over breakfast I was reading and debating about the drugs Whereabouts rule – FIFA and UEFA do not want to sign up to the WADA code – they only want testing to be carried out at the training grounds because testing outside of training infringes on a Footballer’s social life . . . .. Tom Boonen’s too !! (insidethegames.com).
I also was reading about Said Saaeef Shaheen (formally Stephen Cherono) – when I was in Font Romeu a couple of seaons back Kevin Clark (Hong Kong Coach) and I would sit by the track (pretending to stretch) and watch him run some ridiculous times – he was quoted in the article saying
“When I’m training, I need four things, a room, a bed, and maybe two blankets, for when it gets cold”
Evidently the Qatari athete (hesafeckinkeynan!) is old school iron . . . .
