ITU Barbados

‘Yeah I am off to Barbados for the weekend’
Yeah . . . rock n roll lifestyle !
Sort of.
In 1751 George Washington visited Barbados “In the cool of the evening we rode in the country and were perfectly enraptured with the beautiful scenery which every side presented our view. The fields of cane, corn, fruit trees in a delightful green..”.
Good for you George it sounds like you had an awesome time – I am jealous you were able to go there for pleasure and that even though I was there I wasn’t really. Maybe I’ll have to go back.
I only managed 3 nights and most of my time was spent cycling up and down a duel carriageway or sitting inside getting a masters degree in Kinesio taping and eating eggs and oats. What I do not know about that sticky tape is not worth knowing. I can even now make intricate patterns with different colours.

Strange – just going to Barbados for just 3 nights ? I didn’t even change the time on my watch even though there was a 4 hour time difference. Imagine my annoyance as we had to sit through another ITU briefing, it was getting well past my bed time. Although mentally is was easier for me to race at 11am than 7am.
Something must be done with these briefings ! Maybe that is another blog ? Maybe a fancy dress competition would make them interesting ? Best dressed gets a head start ? A fancy dress jungle theme ? Or maybe that’s not a great idea as one of my favourite girl athletes rocked up in Barbados in 5finger gorilla footwear . . simply not becoming of a girl who even manages to look good at the 8km point of the run.
Anyway, back to the in depth details of the race :

I was 5th. Not quite good enough on the day to get on the podium, just good enough so that I wasn’t 6th. Here is a link to my bike ride to fatten out this blog post . . . . Geek alert !
