Pontresina Training Camp
July 25th, 2009 by Gavin

Mountains, sunshine, cows and chocolate . . sure where would you rather be ?
I am here in Pontresina in Switzerland with the Irish Team – living at 1800m altitude.
We are a small working unit – myself, Aileen Morrison, Emma Davis, Sean Renfer, David Graham, Brian Roy, Robbie Moss Keane and coach Chris Jones. We have also been supported by SINI and will continue to do so on and off throughout the camp.
It’s always best to be cautious when first arriving at altitude – so our training has been mostly aerobic but with a decent amount of volume.
The running and riding conditions are probably the best that I have experienced – and I’ve been around ! I had my first venture in Italy the other day and todays ride took in a 38km climb …. it’s like feeding time at the zoo in the hour after I put my Specialized back in the bike room.
The current speed record is 92kph; there has been lots of blood taken and hydration testing . . . and a chick in a bikini walking a tightrope in St Moritz slowed down 1 of the run reps.
It’s all good
