South African Triathlon Champs, an MRI and a muffin

Does my ass look big ??? A little pear shaped . . .
It has been a hectic past few days for me. Last Friday I flew to Jo’burg for SA Champs in Germiston . . on Sunday I flew back with a raging headache having not had the stimulus I had hoped for.
I was maybe a little naive to make an Olympic Distance non drafting National Champs as my first race in 6 months – particulary as I haven’t run properly for over 3 weeks – did I also mention it was at 1650m altitude ? Did I mention my raging headache for the 48hrs after I finished and the feeling I had been hit by a truck ?
I actually felt pretty good the morning of the race even though it was a little bit strange to be doing my pre race routine again. Sometimes you begin a session or a race and you know from the first stroke if it’s going to be a good day or not . . on this occasion I felt heavy and low in the water, 1 paced and mentally I was a little bit slow. The altitude didn’t effect my breathing but I think it added to my lathargic feelings.
At around 1k of the run I slowed as my hip began to tighten up – again I was a bit naive in thinking I could bluff my way through it. I am not one to drop out of races so I slowed my paced and jogged around. My injury is on the mend but under no circumstances was I to damage it by running hard. It was a long 10km shuffle.
Back in Stellenbosch and this morning I had an MRI on my lower back and pelvis to get an accurate assessment . . . . results pending . . . . new race schedule pending . . . . 1 more americano and muffin to plan the road ahead.
