Titanic Quarter 10k and the week that was

Titanic Quarter 10k was the focus today and although it was cold and windy, 32.40 wasn’t very pleasing ….

After a 31.25 in Stellenbosch a few weeks ago I was looking forward to another good ‘hit out’ on what should have been a fast course. There was 2 races happening – 2 Keynans and the rest – and I was in the lead group of the ‘rest race’ until around 7k when the sparodic pace got the better of me and I started to fade into the wind . . . . and that was about it !

Its been a disruptive period since I got back from South Africa with some easier weeks training and a lot of driving about ….. too much driving about !  The last 7 days went something like this:

Monday: Swim with the Lakelanders and a long run

Tuesday: Easy run / Treadmill 4x2k / 12k Build Run

Wednesday: Swim with Lakelanders / 3hr bike with efforts (20mins, 4x5mins and sprints in the last hour) / Easy Run

Thursday: Easy Ride / Swim with Lisburn

Friday: Swim with Lisburn / Strength Session in the Institute (SINI)

Saturday: Easy Run / Easy run with strides ….

So there wasnt too much work in there, which meant I should have been fresh enough in todays 10k but I just didnt have that little bit extra to push on ….

All that being said, Sarah-Louise came with me today so I was still smiling at the end …

This week I will return to SINI for more testing and then I have the Gorey 3 day bike race over Easter Weekend. We will make the call on Wednesday to whether or not Ill travel to Japan at the end of the month . . . my fitness is fine and in training im going well however my race fitness and speed is a different ball game

I am no expert but I think a solid effort in 10k requires at least a whole week of proper taper and you had a solid ride on Wednesday.

It is just hard for triathletes to do well in running only, you can never really taper properly?

I do not know if I am right, it is part statement, part question…

    Also the wind you mention
