Training In Florida

Big cars, cheap gasoline, sidewalks, alligators, trashcans, capsicums and zucchinis. I had a great massage the other day and when I went to pay I was told it was 39$ “but the real value of that massage is somewhere between 65$ and 95$”. I am not the sharpest tool in the box but surely it would be easier just to set a price without the guilt or faffing about ? Can you imagine for example getting your haircut at the butchers in Ireland and then it’s the done thing to pay more than advertised ? It would be like tipping the Ryanair staff instead of clapping when they arrive 30mins ahead of schedule on a 2hr flight that in reality only ever takes 90mins. Don’t get me started on adding tax to my bag of sweets when I reach the counter with an exact handful of change.

Anyway . .

I am in Florida at the moment and being supported by AAA tri camps here near to Clermont and Orlando. I did race Yokohama WCS after Beijing but in the hope that you might keep reading this blog I won’t go into the details of my snotty nose and DNF.

So to Florida – Mickey Mouse lives here and they have a hill they call a mountain that’s also a bit mickey mouse – “you wouldn’t catch Roche or Kelly calling it a mountain” she said.  But in saying that the training has been good and as with most places I am finding new routes everyday (our Sunday route led us straight to IHOP  – it was like we unlocked a bonus level on a video game).

As with a lot of locations in the USA you probably need a car to get to most training sessions – however we have been lucky that at the excellent  AAA Tricamps base 75% of the time we can bike and run from the door – we can even swim in the front yard in a 25m pool.

We have joined a group of Aussie Athletes from NWSIS and coach Jamie Turner (I’m Kiwi bru) and it has been great to be amongst a group of athletes preparing for the same goal . . . Huatulco World Cup Mexico.

After Mexico . . . 7 weeks until home (I am conscious sometimes that I think like that !?)
